Top 10 result for Ash Walsh in Dunlop Series shootout at Winton

Ash Walsh has recorded a strong Top 10 finish in his first outing in the new simPRO Racing / MSR Falcon FG in Round 6 of the Dunlop Series at Winton today. The first of three races, Walsh started from seventh position on the grid for race 1. The Matt Stone team felt they did not quite find the sweet spot for Qualifying at the tight Winton track. A little too much wheel spin at the green light at the start of Race 1 saw Dale Wood’s Commodore jump Ash and he crossed the line at the end of Lap 1 in eighth spot.

From that point on it was a fairly uneventful journey for the simPRO Falcon. Walsh had built a good gap to the cars behind him and was focussed on closing on Wood who in turn was closing in on a battling Andy Jones and Chaz Mostert. It almost ended in tears on the final lap in front of Walsh as Mostert put a move on Jones sending him off into the dirt at Turn 4 allowing Wood past. Walsh was not quite close enough to capitalize and crossed the line a cars length behind Jones to finish in 8th place. Continue reading

Ash Walsh to debut ex Stone Bros FG Falcon for final Dunlop Series rounds

Leading Dunlop Series young gun, Ash Walsh announced today that he will contest the final two rounds of the 2012 Dunlop Series in a current SBR spec FG Falcon.  The planning for this move goes back many months, however the final go ahead was only agreed between Matt Stone Racing and SBR prior to Bathurst. The chassis has undergone a full upgrade and will run a full test day prior to the Winton Round in November.

“This is a really exciting deal for the last couple of rounds.” Ash said as he checked the car at Matt Stone Racing’s workshop. “We have been discussing this option with Matt as part of our 2012 campaign for some time but to see it now come to fruition is awesome. The MSR and PACE guys have really pulled out all stops to ensure everything on the car is spot on. SBR have also been a great help. I can’t wait to roll it out at the test on Wednesday.” Walsh added.
