Friday, 15 February 2013 16:58 – V8 SuperTourers
A last minute deal will see young Aussie charger Ashley Walsh attempt to emulate the fantastic season in 2012 by Scott McLaughlin by running in both the full BNT V8 SuperTourer series and the… V8 Supercar Development Series.
Walsh – 25 – ran his first laps in the ex-Emery MPC-run V8ST Holden and his first laps at the tricky Hampton Downs circuit on Friday morning after a last minute flight to New Zealand from Queensland on Thursday evening.
Walsh – Australian Karting champion in 2003 – will run the entire BNT V8 SuperTourer series in the number 12 car with backing from BOC and Queensland-based Crimsafe.
“The car is very different to a development series car, with sharper turn in. It was a bit of a challenge this morning running the new car on anew circuit, but I am very excited to be running in both series this year. Scott did a fantastic job in 2012 with a similar schedule, and it shows it can be done.”
The eleventh hour deal meant Kayne Scott – who had been expected to drive the car for at least the Hampton Downs round – would not be competing in the first round of the series.
