Erebus V8 driver Ash Walsh recovered from a suspension problem he suffered in the first of two 60km races at Sydney Motorsport Park to finish in 16th place in the final race of the day. While Walsh was disappointed to have a rear suspension problem in Race 21, he was happy to finish the day with a platform to build-off heading into tomorrow’s final day of racing. “In the first race, I had a better qualifying position so I got away pretty well but got collected by Caruso heading into turn 4 and that broke the rear suspension,’’ said Walsh. “I cruised around and just tried to collect some points. Not ideal, but these things happen. “Starting off in P17, I got a really good start in the first lap again – I was running around 12th or 13th after the first lap and just struggled a bit with some understeer throughout the race and got picked off by a couple of cars. “But we’ll learn overnight and it’s good to get some points in the bag and a consistent finish, which has been hard to come by lately. It’s something to build off for tomorrow.’’
The Sunday 200km race did not fare much better for Walsh finishing just one spot behind Will Davison in 21st spot after a troubling race. Safety Cars, pit stop strategy and rain all played against Walsh with a drive through penalty the last straw tumbling him from a race high 3rd position to P21 at the flag.
