The penultimate round of the 2013 Dunlop Series has been run and won at Bathurst today and once again Ash Walsh and the Infant’s Friend Falcon has featured in the top group. After a great comeback drive in Race 1, Walsh started the 14 lap final from P8. The start line gremlins once again thwarted a clean get away but he recovered quickly to settle into P9 after Lap 1.
From that point he set about another drive through the pack demonstrating the good race pace of the Matt Stone Racing Falcon. By Lap 5 he was into P5 having picked off Andy Jones, Taz Douglas and Drew Russell. With a Safety Car on track for 3 laps, the field was bunched up for a four lap sprint to the end.
Walsh wasted no time pressuring Casey Stoner and was lucky not to become involved in a big incident as Stoner banged the wall at Reid Park. Walsh was very close to the wall too as he avoided Stoner and came through to move into fourth place. A position he would hold until the end as the race was shortened by two laps.
This result gave Ash a fifth overall for the round and all but cemented his second place in the 2013 Dunlop Series Championship.
#87 – Ash Walsh – Infants’ Friend FG Falcon
“The start was again not quite right, but we really had a good race car! In fact the Infants Friend Falcon really came on strong over the race distance. I was able to pass a number of people and with a few more laps I reckon a big battle with Jack Perkins was on. Once I get closer to the front I can really show the pace of the car without burning up the tyres trying to pass some slower cars. We’ll do our best in Sydney and hopefully lock down a good result in the Championship.”
