Infant’s Friend V8 Supercar pilot Ash Walsh has continued his good 2013 form as Round 3 of the Dunlop Series burst into life on the streets of Townsville today. The Development Series field boasts a 31 car grid and Walsh made sure that the Infants’ Friend Falcon was again in the lead group in the final practice session.
The Dunlop Series round is the main support to the Sucrogen Townsville 400 this weekend and will see the cars using the Dunlop Sprint ‘soft’ tyre for the first time. For the young guns in the series running on the mix of tyres is an invaluable learning as they strive to move into the main V8 Supercars Championship.
The Dunlop Series field were on track for two x 40 minute sessions. In P1, Ash ran older tyres but also found the set up not quite to his liking on the demanding street track. Between sessions and with new tyres on the car, Walsh was quickly to the top in P2 being the first car to break into the 1:14 bracket. Running fewer laps than all his main competitors, Walsh ended up in position 2 for the day, and felt there was still more to come from the car.
QUOTE BOOK: #87 – Ash Walsh – Infants Friend FG Falcon
“It was good to get out on a new set of tyres in the second session to see what we have got. I think we still have some work to do on the Infant’s Friend Falcon for qualifying so we will do some homework tonight to try and find some more pace. We are quite different in set up today from how we ran at the Clipsal circuit so we may go back to that sort of set up to attack this street circuit.” Walsh said.
“It is still a bit mixed up on who is running what tyres today but we know what we have to do, but not surprisingly all the main guys’ are at the front. Qualifying will be interesting for sure!” Ash concluded.
Round 3 of the Championship will be run over three races at the Sucrogen Townsville 400.
