simPRO V8 Supercar driver Ash Walsh has once again put the #87 Matt Stone Racing Falcon into the Top 10 during practice today for Round 3 of the Dunlop Series. The 24 car field had two 40 minute sessions today at the Townsville street circuit and Walsh was in the lead group in both sessions to be finally classified 9th. The day was all about set up and ensuring a good balance in the car on this notoriously tough track.
After the first practice session, Walsh was in deep discussion with his crew to try and improve the handling and although not running the best of his Dunlop tyres, felt there was more to come. The second session was a rough & tumble affair with Ash involved in two incidents with other drivers on the tight and unforgiving layout. Townsville often throws this problem up of cars building to speed on an out lap whist cars at full speed catch them quickly. At the chequered flag Walsh had improved his morning time by over 6/10ths of a second and was credited with 9th overall. Less than ½ second covered the first 10 cars pointing to a huge battle in Qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday.
“Today was a pretty disjointed day to be honest. Practice 2 was a bit all over the shop but to end up 9th and only 4/10ths off pole is a good result for the simPRO Falcon” Wash said “You have to get a clear run here so we will be making some changes tonight and really have a crack at qualifying” Ash concluded.
Round 3 of the 2012 Dunlop Series will be run over three races this weekend. Ash Walsh currently sits in 5th place in the championship.
