Ash Walsh moves to fifth in 2012 Dunlop Series

simPRO Racing Team driver Ash Walsh has finished the weekend with a superb fourth place in the final 22 lap race to cement a fourth place overall for the round at Queensland Raceway today. The day started well in the reverse top 10 race for Ash as he was involved in a monumental tussle with the lead group coming home in third place.

Starting in sixth place he was quickly up to fourth place. A titanic battle between Walsh, McLaughlin and Jones saw Ash briefly to third only to see Percat take back the place on the next lap. The simPRO Falcon was on the limit as Ash held a lurid slide through turn 1 on the following lap and in the end crossed the line in a fine third place.

The final and longer race would see the grid line up in accumulated points order. Starting out of position 4, Walsh was away cleanly and right on the tail of the lead Level 1 team cars of Mostert, Pye and McLaughlin. The race went flag to flag with no safety car and tyres were to play a major factor. Walsh dropped off the lead group a little but had David Russell in his mirrors and closing fast. With only a few laps to run, Walsh saw the Dreamtime Commodore go for a run into Turn 4 but Russell went in too deep and gave Ash just the gap he needed to consolidate and cross the line in fourth place.

“The boys were racing pretty hard in the reverse grid race this morning so I was happy to come out with a third place finish. We ran the same tyres as the first race and the car was quick for the race duration.” Walsh said.

Turning to the final race Ash commented, “It was good keep my nose clean for the whole weekend and grab a nice haul of points for the Championship. The car was good till about the ¾ distance but developed a fair bit of understeer towards the end. The Matt Stone boys are working really well on the car so fourth overall is a great reward today.” Walsh concluded.

Ash Walsh has moved up into fifth place in the 2012 Dunlop Series as the field heads to Bathurst for Round 5 in October.
