Infant’s Friend driver Ash Walsh has backed up his first race win in the 2013 Dunlop Series with a fine third place today at the Clipsal 500, giving him second overall for the round. Walsh stepped onto the podium of a V8 Supercar race for the first time in front of a huge crowd in Adelaide.
Fresh from a win in Race 1, Walsh and the MSR team were mindful of keeping the tyre life in the car over a longer 23 lap race. Starting from Pole Position, Walsh got just too much wheel spin and was fourth after lap 1. A great run out of Turn 8 saw Walsh launch past Andy Jones to grab 3rd position on Lap 4. Although he was close to the two leading Fords of Mostert and Wood, he could not bridge the gap and settled into a third place race spot, guaranteeing him second overall for the weekend.
“In both races we struggled a little bit with tyre life. At the end of this second race there was a fair gap to Woody (2nd place Dale Wood), and I wasn’t catching him so I made surer could bring it home in a strong third place without tyre problems.” Walsh said. “We are really a lot better prepared this year to have a crack at the Dunlop Series. Working with the same engineer in the second year at Matt Stone makes the job a bit easier.” Ash commented.
When asked about his expectations for the season Ash said “I think this weekend that the Infant’s Friend Falcon has the potential. We do have some work to as we have found over the two races here, but a lot of good signs from the first round.” Walsh said.
