simPRO Racing Team driver Ash Walsh has continued his excellent 2012 form with another top 5 finish in the first of three races in round 4 of the Dunlop Series. After a tough qualifying session, Walsh lined up in eighth place determined to show the speed the car had demonstrated in Friday’s practice sessions.
A lightning start saw Ash split the pair of Blanchard and Jones to grab two places before turn 1. Behind him carnage was the order of the day as Wood, Jones and the unfortunate Blanchard proved that three cars won’t go into Turn 1. Walsh was clear and up to fourth on the following lap with another great move on Percat at turn 1.
The pace at the front was fierce with Level One teams dominating the first four places. Walsh was next best in the Matt Stone Racing Falcon and was shadowing the group of Pye, Mostert, McLaughlin & Percat. A fast closing Luke Youlden started to catch Walsh at ¾ distance but Ash consolidated and maintained the gap to finish in a fine fifth place. Importantly, Ash gained valuable points for his championship campaign.
“It was a good result following the qualifying this morning. The car held on very well over the race distance and has set us up for a good weekend” a happy Walsh commented post race. “The ‘works’ cars gapped me a little towards the end but in the middle part we had good pace. We will sweeten it up a bit more and get ready for tomorrow.” Ash concluded.
Ash sits in 6th pace overall in the 2012 Dunlop Series.
