simPRO Racing Team driver Ash Walsh has finished the opening day of practice at Round 4 of the 2012 Dunlop Series in an excellent fourth place overall. The 25 car field ran two x 40 minute practice sessions today in preparation for qualifying and the first of three races tomorrow. In fine conditions Walsh was out of the blocks quickly putting the #87 simPRO Falcon into first position in the opening practice. The Matt Stone Racing Team undertook a test day a week ago here at Queensland Raceway and was quietly confident that the ex Stone Bros Falcon had again found some good speed.
The second session saw the tines tumble as many of the front runners opted for brand new Dunlop race tyres to chase a qualifying set up. Walsh did not follow suit so his time was very representative of the car’s outright speed under race conditions.
“We had a very successful test last Friday and have made good steps at each outing.” Ash said. “The changes we made from Townsville and again at the test have been very positive. The car is really responding well so I am really looking forward to getting a set of ‘green’ tyres and see what we can do in qualifying tomorrow.” Walsh concluded.
The Dunlop Series will contest three races at Queensland Raceway this weekend with Race 1 on Saturday and Race 3 on Sunday forming part of Network 7’s live coverage.
