Heartbreak for Ash Walsh in Wilson MedicOne Enduro as Bathurst bites hard.

The 2014 Dunlop Series title fight took a major turn at Bathurst today as Infants’ Friend driver Ash Walsh failed to finish the 250km endurance event after a crash at the top of the mountain.

The Matt Stone team had made substantial changes in the set up of the car to try and bridge the gap to arch rival Paul Dumbrell after practice and qualifying. After recovering from a slow start, Walsh was on the move putting a bold move on Andy Jones into Forest Elbow to move into 4th place. He then set his sights on Cam Waters but the rear of the car stepped out over the notorious Reid Park bend. Walsh nearly gathered it all up but smacked the wall eliminating the car on the spot.

It was a gut wrenching end for Walsh and his hard working MSR team. It also has placed the 2014 Dunlop Series Championship just out of reach of the young Ipswich driver. Dumbrell went on to win the race effectively taking the series with one round to run in Sydney.

#87 – Ash Walsh – Infant’s Friend Falcon FG

“We have had some issues with the handling all weekend and the car has been quite snappy. I turned in across Reid Park and just lost the rear. I thought we may have escaped, but at the bottom of the hill it clipped the wall and that was enough to put us out.

“I should have been more cautious to ensure the points heading to Sydney but I was trying to stay with Cam (Waters) after getting by Andy Jones. It is my mistake and has cost me the Championship.”
