Ash Walsh will continue his 2015 V8 Supercars campaign on the streets of Townsville this weekend with Infants’ Friend and AUSblue branding prominent on the Erebus E63 AMG once again.
The previous round in Darwin threw up issues for every team and driver with a slick new surface at Hidden Valley proving tough to get tyre consistency across the weekend. Although Walsh’s results did not show it, he believes once again the team made good progress and must continue to focus on putting the full weekend package together.
Ash has had some excellent performances with Top 10’s and Top 15’s already this year and in Darwin sat P1 after Practice 4 on the Sunday morning. It highlights that the consistency in every session and race will bring results to the young Queenslander.
Street circuits have always been a favourite for Walsh and he has recorded some impressive results in his Dunlop Series career in recent years.
“We had a tough run in Darwin results wise but I think everyone had issues with the new track surface with the transition from new to worn tyres. We were chasing our tail a bit, but having said that we made some real progress again with car set up over the weekend. We can bank a few more things that are working well as we head to Townsville.” Ash said.
“I really enjoy street circuits. We started the season in Adelaide with a Top 10, so it would be great to shoot for that again in the Infants’ Friend / AUSblue AMG E63. You need to be accurate over the kerbs and I like the technical nature of the Townsville layout. I am more comfortable in the car and continue to work on my fitness between every event.
“I have been working with Campbell (Little) on a number of issues and we are much focussed on putting the whole weekend tighter. That is the greatest learning for me, not just being quick in practice or a race. If we continue to focus on that strategy I’m sure we can improve the results.” Walsh added. This weekend’s action will mark the second visit to a street circuit in the 2015 V8 Supercars Championship. The Townsville 400 will be run in two 70 lap – 200km segments on the weekend.
