Ash Walsh has recorded a strong Top 10 finish in his first outing in the new simPRO Racing / MSR Falcon FG in Round 6 of the Dunlop Series at Winton today. The first of three races, Walsh started from seventh position on the grid for race 1. The Matt Stone team felt they did not quite find the sweet spot for Qualifying at the tight Winton track. A little too much wheel spin at the green light at the start of Race 1 saw Dale Wood’s Commodore jump Ash and he crossed the line at the end of Lap 1 in eighth spot.
From that point on it was a fairly uneventful journey for the simPRO Falcon. Walsh had built a good gap to the cars behind him and was focussed on closing on Wood who in turn was closing in on a battling Andy Jones and Chaz Mostert. It almost ended in tears on the final lap in front of Walsh as Mostert put a move on Jones sending him off into the dirt at Turn 4 allowing Wood past. Walsh was not quite close enough to capitalize and crossed the line a cars length behind Jones to finish in 8th place.
“It was good to have clean race and get another Top 10 finish. Of course we want to be higher up the order but we have tonight to again look at set up changes and come back for the two races tomorrow.” Ash commented. “The car is a bit different to the BF so we are still working out what we can do to make it work here at Winton. Race 2 is all about tyre life and ensuring a good grid spot for the final race. We need to keep just chipping away here” Walsh concluded.
The Dunlop Series is on track at Winton for the final two races of Round 6
