Infants’ Friend V8 Supercar driver Ash Walsh has begun Round 6 of the Dunlop Series with a strong showing in the single 40 minute practice session this morning. The top three cars were separated by only 3/10ths of a second pointing to a very competitive qualifying on Friday. Series combatants Walsh and Paul Dumbrell were split by Cam Waters; these three drivers battling at every round of the Dunlop Series to date.
The new surface on the 6.2km Mt Panorama has proved to be very ‘grippy’ and Walsh reported back to his MSR crew that the car was quite ‘taily’ at many of the corners. He remains confident that the team will be able to tune the car for the all important Qualifying session on Friday. The unique nature of the Wilson MedicOne Enduro sees pit stops for fuel and tyres introduced to the series for the first time. Walsh will calling on his Dick Johnson Racing team crew for service during the 41 lap, 250km journey on Saturday.
#87 – Ash Walsh – Infant’s Friend Falcon FG
“We knew after our track walk that the re surfacing would change the circuit, but it had far more grip than we thought. The car was tending to oversteer as the front end really bit into the new surface. I adjusted as much as I could but it wasn’t quite enough to be quickest. Paul, Cam and I are separated by a tiny amount but we seemed to have a bit of a gap over the rest of the field.
“We have some work to do for qualifying then look how we can make the Infants’ Friend as quick as possible over the 41 lap journey on Saturday.”
