Infant’s Friend driver Ash Walsh has finished the first day of practice in 5th position for Round 1 of the 2013 Dunlop Series for V8 Supercars. The Development Series cars were the first V8 Supercars on track in Adelaide today with a bumper field of 30 cars.
Walsh was on top of the time sheets in session one after only two laps before a dusty track at the infamous Turn 8 caught him out and the Matt Stone run Falcon clipped the wall ending his practice run. Amazingly after the 40 plus minutes were over Ash’s time had been good enough to be third overall despite completing only a few laps. A clear demonstration of the pace in the ex SBR car.
The MSR crew worked between the sessions to repair the car and Walsh was back on track for session two later in the day. The Infant’s Friend driver was again right at the pointy end and with two minutes remaining had recorded the fastest first and second sectors only to get baulked on the run to the flag. His time was still good enough for fifth place overall on the day.
“The car was very quick in both sessions, but we copped a setback when I clipped the wall at Turn 8 early in the first session.” Ash said “In the second session we ran new tyres but I don’t think we really showed our true potential as I got baulked a bit on my best lap. However going into qualifying I feel confident we can improve.” He added.
With a 30 car field traffic is going to play a major role in qualifying and the two races. “Managing the traffic is a real issue so we have to plan our qualifying strategy very carefully.” Walsh concluded.
Round 1 of the Dunlop Series will be conducted over two races on Friday & Saturday as part of the Clipsal 500.
